About mole removal

SELECT YOUR TREATMENT

What is it?

A mole (or a melanocytic nevus) is a small, often slightly raised blemish on the skin, made dark by a high concentration of melanin. These can be removed for a number of reasons and are safe to do so when performed by a professional. It may be that your dermatologist has recommended the removal of an abnormal mole to rule out any chance of cancer. Most moles, however, do not indicate anything about your health and you do not have to get them removed.

What are the symptoms?

Moles are formed when pigment from the border of a spot spreads into the surrounding skin.

What are the causes?

The genes we inherit from our parents, along with the amount of sun to which we are exposed (especially during childhood), are major factors in determining mole numbers.

Skin with more sun exposure tends to have more moles. However, moles may also occur in sun-protected areas like the palms, soles, and genitals.

What should you avoid?

Of course, nobody likes the thought of having a mole removed. However, the one thing you should not do is ignore any moles that do not look right. It’s important to note: The skin should be checked every few months for any new moles that develop (particularly after teenage years, when new moles become less common) or any changes to existing moles. A mole can change in a matter of weeks or months.

Although not quite as imminently imperative, it may simply be that you would like to provide your skin with balance and smoothness. At HC MedSpa, we have a treatment for you. Of course, while such imperfections are not necessarily distracting or unpleasant for others, moles are an issue for some people. Worrying about your moles for the rest of your life is something that you can easily side-step.

Who is affected?

Moles usually target more individuals with fair skin. They usually respond to hormonal changes such as women during pregnancy whose moles may get darker. Teenager's moles usually increase in number and older individuals often have moles that disappear.
