There are a few skin-care and treatment misconceptions that we hear regularly, so we’ve decided to separate the facts from the myths!
“Preventative Botox really works.”
Fact! Anti-Wrinkle Injectables work to relax the muscles, stopping them from contracting and forming notable lines and wrinkles. The earlier you start, the more effective this treatment works as a preventative measure.
“The tighter my skin feels after cleansing, the deeper the clean.”
Myth! If after cleansing, your skin feels tight, we suggest changing your cleansing product immediately! Its more than likely that the product isn’t suited to your skin type and is stripping the skin of its natural oils. Tightness after cleansing will (over-time) result in dry and sensitive skin.
“Oily skins age better than dry skins.”
Fact! An oily skin has a thicker subcutaneous (fatty) layer, making the skin more plumped. The natural oil that resides on the surface of the skin acts as a continual moisturiser which can deflect from fine lines and wrinkles. As drier skin types are often more sallow and dull, visible signs of ageing appear more notably. This isn’t to say oily skins won’t age at all, they will, just at a slower rate.
“Only teenagers get acne.”
Myth! Acne is the most common skin disease meaning people of all races and ages can suffer. With an estimated 80% of male and females between the ages of 11-30 suffering from acne outbreaks at some point in their lives, some people in their 40s & 50s still get acne.
“Dermal fillers have immediate effect but anti-wrinkle injections don’t.”
Fact! Dermal Fillers are made up of a gel-like product called Hyaluronic Acid, when injected into the skin, this instantly plumps. Swelling may be apparent but after this subsides, the end result is plump and smooth.
Whereas Botox and Anti-Wrinkle Injections work by paralyzing the muscles to stop them from contracting and forming wrinkles. It begins to have an effect after a few days with optimum effect at about 14 days.
“If a product doesn’t work after 1 week, change it.”
Myth! When using a new product, it can take up to 1 month before seeing visible results. The complete benefit of skincare products will only be visible until after a full cycle of skin-cell turnover to take place which takes a month.
