Skin & Body Detox – Part One: Diet

SKIN & BODY DETOX – Part One: Diet

New Year is here, which can only mean one thing, it’s time for a detox. After the holiday season of over-indulging in favourite foods and drinks, partying into the late hours and not getting enough sleep or exercise, your health can take a hit and the most obvious place it will show is the skin.

The skin is a very important reflection of your overall health and well-being, so to get back your glow, first cleanse from the inside by following the below professional tips and then focus on external skincare. You can also follow everything we suggest throughout the year as a good guideline for ongoing healthy living.

Cut back on refined sugar which can damage proteins like collagen and elastin that keep your skin firm and elastic.

Eat chemical-free organic food where possible and choose meat and dairy that hasn’t been treated with hormones  to ingest less toxins which can cause acne and other skin problems.

Opt for healthier fats which help the body absorb essential vitamins and restore or maintain an ideal hormone balance. Choose salmon (which creates strong skin cells, improve skin elasticity, and help prevent wrinkles) olive oil (instead of butter) and nuts and seeds for snacking.

Eat lots of:

alkaline-rich fruits and vegetables. Alkaline minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium are what keep our skin, hair, teeth, and bones strong and healthy and are contained in foods such as spinach, broccoli, kale, apples, pears, bananas and watermelon

antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables. The carotenoid pigments found in fruits and vegetables such as squash, tomatoes, carrots, oranges and dark, leafy greens are rich in antioxidants that destroy free radicals, which have a detrimental affect to the skin

water-rich fruits and vegetables as some can hydrate the body twice as effectively as a glass of water. Containing hydrating salts and minerals, they work ina similar way to the isotonic drinks favoured by athletes. Try watermelon, celery and cucumber

And drink lots of water so the body can eliminate toxins in the digestive system in order to create a clearer complexion. It will also boost skin hydration but this is only effective if you have a healthy level of essential skin lipids to hold on to the moisture. Aim to drink 8 glasses a day. Try herbal teas with detoxing properties such as green tea, liquorice and cardamom if you get bored of water.

For a quick method to eliminate waste whilst tightening the skin, discover our Fat Reduction treatments with Accent which safely removes fatty deposits by stimulating natural lymphatic drainage. Chosen by many clients and celebrities (Madonna has one Accent machine in her home!) for its power to tone the skin, reduce cellulite and boost collagen production, the Accent platform is the recommended go-to whilst detoxing. This pain-free procedure can also be used on the face to give a firmer, plumper and naturally youthful look. Treatments start from £50.

If you’re looking to shift the pounds gained over Christmas or reduce long-standing stubborn weight, try Fat Freezing, a safe procedure that acts as a non-surgical and pain-free alternative to liposuction. The system works by selective cooling of the unwanted fatty tissue to a level where it is destroyed. The fat cells in the treated area are then eliminated through the normal metabolism process via the lymphatic system. Results can be seen after just one session. Treatments start from £500.
